Myanmar will stop the export of logs

Recently, Myanmar Newsweek reported: Burma Environmental and Forestry Department was informed that from April 1, 2014, Myanmar will stop the export of logs.

According to the forestry development plan is being formulated, the export of logs from 2014-2015 will stop. All timber must be processed to improve its value before export.In addition, from 2012 until 2016, will decline 15% teak and 20% hardwood deforestation year after year, the Bago Mountains teak and hardwood harvest volumes decreased by 75% and 22% respectively.

According to statistics, Myanmar 2011-2012 fiscal year approved a total of 371,000 tons felled teak, hardwood 1,789,400 tons.

Myanmar Resources and Environment Committee Secretary-General,the Wu Denglun pointed out that the coverage of forest resources in Myanmar Konbaung dynasty (1752-1885) was 70% of the total land area, dropped to 57% by 1962.In 2005 is 51% ,while 2008 is 24%, and is only about 20% at present.
